Senior Photo Tips – How to Get the Best Senior Photos

Posted April 14th, 2010
-

Your senior photo session is coming up, so take note: your eyes are the first thing anyone sees or looks for in your photos. We only see you a few times ever, and your session is one of the first (if not the first) time, so those dark circles under your eyes from staying up too late will be in your photos since for us it could be normal! The same goes for red eyes from crying — be sure you’re well-rested and in a good mood for your shoot. You’ll like the photos a lot better!

Throughout our dozens and dozens of seniors we’ve come up with a few points to pay attention to before the camera comes out:

  1. Please be on time. We schedule back to back appointments and you will lose camera time. If you are more than 15 minutes late, you will need to reschedule.

  2. No cameras of any kind are not allowed at the studio or location shoots. Period. It’s distracting for you, the model, and your photos will suffer.

  3. Bring only 1- 2 people to your appointment. More people are a distraction and take your attention away from us.

Girls

  • Come well-rested before your session so that you will look fresh! Red eyes or dark circles could be completely normal — we don’t know you were up until 4:00 am!

  • Wear makeup and or wear mascara. Use lipgloss or lipstick during your session to keep your lips moist. Chapped lips will show in the photos.

  • If you are changing the color or style of your hair, allow 1-2 weeks to get used to the style, but be sure it’s fresh enough for your shoot (i.e., no roots!)

  • Bring clothes that fit well, are clean, and are wrinkle free. Bring shoes that go with your outfits as we shoot full length shots. Solid colors look best! Clothing with stripes and bold patterns will draw attention away from you.

  • Pamper yourself with a manicure and pedicure. Chipped polish show in photos and can be very hard to fix.

  • If you wear glasses, bring an extra frame without lenses. With outdoor shoots, Transitions lenses are especially a problem.

Guys

  • Come well rested before your session so that you will look fresh! Like the tip from the Girls’ section above, we don’t know you only got two hours of sleep and that’s why your eyes are baggy.

  • Let your hair grow out at least a week after a new hair cut.

  • Be clean shaven and have your fingernails clean and nicely trimmed.

  • Use chap stick during your session to keep your lips moist.

  • Bring clothes that fit well, are clean, and are wrinkle free. Bring shoes that go with your outfits as we shoot full length shots. Solid colors look best! Clothing with stripes and bold patterns will draw attention away from you.

  • If you wear glasses, bring an extra frame without lenses. Again, Transitions lenses are a big problem and make it very hard to see your eyes.

Britton Photography is a Favorite Place on Google

Not too long ago an envelope from Google appeared in our mailbox. Inside it was a letter and a window decal — we’re one of the businesses named a Google Favorite Place!

If we’ve done your photos or an event you attended, please take a moment to add a review for us. You can do so at our Google Local Business Listing. It’s always helpful to have more!
